Candice N. Baker, Ph.D.

I am the Associate Director of Research Projects at The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), where my responsibilities include overseeing a broad range of research projects both at JAX and with external collaborators. For my postdoctoral work, I joined JAX’s Knockout Mouse Project (KOMP) embryonic lethality phenotyping team to be at the forefront of uncovering new genes that regulate embryonic heart function. Thus, in addition to my project management and leadership expertise, my scientific training has established a solid base in molecular biology, mouse genetics, biochemistry, and developmental biology. In my previous role as Associate Study Director at JAX, I directly supported internal and external customers requiring breeding services or genetic engineering technologies. In this capacity, I was responsible for overseeing 60+ projects simultaneously. As Associate Director of Research Projects, I manage day-to-day operational delivery of all mouse experiments for JAX’s internal type 2 diabetes (T2D) proof-of-concept institution-wide initiative to identify the molecular networks contributing to T2D risk. My responsibilities also include oversight of collaborative projects focusing on aging, obesity, epilepsy and cardiovascular lymphatics. In my position, I continually interface with dozens of internal collaborators to track progress.
